General information on doorbell nameplates

As the name suggests, the doorbell plate is the name plate of the bell that is mounted on the doorbell of the front door or the front door of the apartment to indicate to any visitor who lives in the apartment. The variety of doorbell nameplates that are used in Switzerland should not be underestimated. Bell systems are often developed by manufacturers for a specific doorbell plate, which means that only one doorbell plate fits perfectly for a doorbell. If you need a new doorbell nameplate because you have moved or got married, you have to know that not every doorbell nameplate can be used for every doorbell. The holder on your bell is usually only designed for a special clincher plate. The doorbell nameplate you need must have the appropriate dimensions, otherwise it will not fit into the intended holder. In contrast to a letterbox sign, the doorbell nameplate is only made of a complicated profile in a few cases. When ordering your new doorbell nameplate, the dimensions, i.e. the length and width of the sign, are particularly important.

Doorbell nameplate materials

A doorbell nameplate is usually made of aluminum or plastic. The aluminum is either brushed, i.e. silvery natural colored aluminum, or matt black or glossy black anodized. There is also a doorbell plate that is optionally made of rustproof INOX, but we usually also use the aluminum version in this case, as it looks more optically more valuable. As with the letterbox sign, the plastic version of the doorbell nameplate is on the rise. Not only can plastic be produced and engraved more cheaply, but a plastic doorbell nameplate is generally indistinguishable from an aluminum doorbell nameplate in its properties.

Aluminum doorbell nameplate

An aluminum doorbell plate can be made from different colored aluminum profiles. A standard doorbell nameplate is usually limited to three main colors. On the one hand, bare aluminum, or if it is colored anodized, either glossy black or matt black. With a natural aluminum doorbell plate, the writing is laid out in black after engraving. A black doorbell label is only engraved and the text is created by the material removal in silver aluminum color on the black label.

Plastic doorbell nameplate

The plastic doorbell plate is in vogue. A plastic doorbell plate offers several advantages to those made of aluminum. The plastic used is UV-resistant and therefore does not fade even with prolonged exposure to the sun. As with the aluminum doorbell plate, the plastic doorbell plate is usually available in silver or black, with the plastic doorbell plate there is also often the color white, which is also often offered.
